YouTube Dominates Citations in Google AI Overviews for Supplement Queries
A new analysis finds YouTube is the most referenced source in Google's AI-generated answers for vitamin and supplement searches, appearing in over half of sampled responses.
A recent research effort tracked Google's AI Overviews for a specific set of health-related queries, focusing on vitamins and dietary supplements. The study monitored 50 searches each day, collecting a total of 350 AI-generated answers over the observation period. The findings indicate a strong reliance on video content from the platform for these particular information requests.
According to the data, YouTube was cited in 186 of the 350 collected answers, which translates to 53.1 percent of the total. This made it the sole source referenced in more than half of the responses examined. No other website or domain achieved a similar citation frequency within the sampled results, highlighting the platform's significant presence in this niche.
The results suggest that for users seeking guidance on supplements and vitamins, Google's AI summaries frequently pull from video material rather than traditional text-based websites. The research did not specify the exact methodology for selecting the queries or the duration of the daily tracking, but the pattern points to a notable shift in how certain informational content is sourced and presented in AI-driven search outputs.
