The Swiss lender will expect entry-level candidates in its global markets division to demonstrate practical AI experience starting in 2027.

UBS has announced that from 2027, applicants for graduate and internship positions within its Global Banking and Markets division must show a working knowledge of artificial intelligence. The bank will ask candidates during interviews to describe specific ways they have used AI tools to boost productivity or improve outcomes, making such familiarity a baseline condition rather than a differentiator.

The move reflects a broader shift across the European banking sector. Santander has also begun prioritizing applicants with advanced AI capabilities, and Morgan Stanley projects that over 200,000 banking jobs in Europe could disappear within five years as automation and machine learning take over routine tasks.

For prospective hires, the implication is clear: hands-on AI experience is becoming a core competency, not an optional skill. Banks are increasingly treating AI fluency as a proxy for adaptability and efficiency, and UBS's policy signals that future entry-level hires will need to arrive ready to work alongside intelligent systems from day one.
