Roland, long known for its synthesizers and drum machines, is stepping into generative AI with a new software tool called Melody Flip. The plugin is designed to work inside digital audio workstations, offering musicians a way to spark creative ideas without the need to start from a blank session.

Melody Flip includes roughly 250 presets, referred to as Palettes, which are grouped by musical genre. These Palettes contain collections of melodic and rhythmic patterns that users can manipulate and integrate into their own projects. The approach differs from services like Suno, which generate complete tracks from simple prompts, as Melody Flip focuses on providing building blocks rather than finished songs.

The move signals Roland's broader interest in AI-assisted music creation, aiming to support producers and composers in their workflow. While the tool is not designed to replace human creativity, it offers a way to quickly explore musical directions and break through creative blocks, according to the company.
