ChatGPT regains web traffic lead as Gemini's surge loses momentum

New data shows OpenAI's chatbot recovering ground in browser-based usage after a temporary dip, though its annual dominance has narrowed considerably.
Fresh figures from Similarweb indicate that ChatGPT has reclaimed a larger portion of web-based AI chatbot visits, now holding 55.5 percent of that traffic. This marks a rebound from a recent period when its share had slipped, allowing rivals to close the gap temporarily.
Over the past twelve months, however, the competitive landscape has shifted notably. ChatGPT's share stood at 73.3 percent a year ago, meaning its current lead is far slimmer. During that same span, Google's Gemini doubled its slice of the market, while Anthropic's Claude experienced a nearly fivefold increase in its share.
It is worth noting that these statistics cover only visits through web browsers. Usage occurring within mobile applications or dedicated desktop software is not reflected in the data, so the figures may not fully capture the overall adoption of these assistants.
